Niagara - Welland Canal Transit

"Wine Tour Excursion"

Excursion on The Maid of the MistThis excursion operates either upstream, from Port Weller Lock #1 to Thorold Lock #7, or in reverse on the downstream itinerary. Both Lock #1 and Lock # 7 are designed to hold the cruise vessels without interfering with seaway traffic. Both Lock #1 and Lock #7 are considered secure facilities by Transport Canada. Transiting the Welland Canal typically requires approximately seven to nine hours. This allows adequate time for a full day of touring the Niagara region, including lunch at a local winery. Near Lock #8, Port Colborne has a dock that is suitable for downstream passenger disembarkation.

Hillebrand Wine TastingThe upstream itinerary has the motor coaches meet the ship at Lock #1 and arrive at Lock #3 at the Welland Canal viewing and information Center. The tour then departs for a narrated transfer via Stanley Avenue to the top of the Falls. The onboard guide recounts the history of over the Falls daredevil stunts and Hydro electric generation at Niagara Falls. Next the passengers board the Maid of the Mist for a one-hour excursion to the base of the Falls. The passengers then re-board the motor coach for a 30-minute transfer on the Niagara Parkway to Hillebrand Winery. At the winery, passengers enjoy a three-course lunch, featuring local ingredients with a selection of wines, and an enrichment speaker discussing the Niagara wine industry. Lunch is followed by wine tasting with the staff sommelier and tour of the facility. Passengers depart the winery for a 15-minute transfer to Niagara on the Lake, and have 60 minutes of free time in the quaint village. Passengers re-board the ship at Lock #7 Thorold.

Duration: 7 hours
